  What can I buy online?

On the Internet, you can get anything from groceries to Gregorian chants on CD. Find fresh fish from the store around the corner or a plane ticket to Idaho to catch your own rainbow trout. You can locate antiques, great computer games, or a new pair of jeans. Plan a vacation or stay at home and have a pizza and a movie delivered. Find that classic car or get the latest best-seller. In short, you can buy just about anything you want.

 Why should I shop online?

It's easy and convenient. There are no crowds or drives to the mall. Unlike brick-and-mortar retailers, the Internet is never out of stock. And it's open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

How do I know I'm getting a good deal?

You can use search certain search engines to compare prices, such as MySimon and RoboShopper.com.

With so much content on the Web, how will I find what I want?

Most of the retailers you normally shop with have Web sites. Or simply type in what you're looking for in the "Search the Web" box on the Juno Home Page and then click Search. Many sites provide built-in help, such as free personal shoppers. And many online retailers will allow you to custom-tailor your search to make it easier to find the products you want.

Is it really safe to give out my credit card number over the Internet?

When you order a product through a Juno advertisement's order form, the order is encrypted and transmitted through the Juno ad system directly to Juno's central computers. This makes using your credit card online even safer than, say, using it to pay a restaurant bill.

When I register at shopping sites, should I use my Juno password?

No. You should use different passwords and change them often. Avoid using your social security number, birth date, phone number, or other easy-to-guess passwords. What if someone else uses my credit card? In the event of an unauthorized use of your credit card, most banks either cover all the resulting charges or limit your liability to $50. (Check your credit card agreement.) If the bank does not cover this additional liability, many Web sites will, provided that the credit card was misused through no fault of your own. But each site is different, so be sure to look for this information wherever you shop.

If I shop online, what will sites learn about me?

There are several ways the Web sites you visit can collect information about you. For example, some may automatically gather certain details about the people who visit their sites, including their computer's operating system, their browser type, their Internet service provider, and the history of their activity at the site (such as which pages they visit). Other sites require you to register certain information before you can enter them. A Web site operator might also be able to collect your email address, particularly if you've sent email to the site. Web sites vary regarding what they do with any such information.

Please note that Juno does not control the conduct of the sites you visit outside of the Juno Platinum domain (that is, any site whose URL doesn't include 'juno.com') or what they do with information they collect about or from you. Even if Juno provides a link to a Web page, this does not mean that we endorse the text, graphics, software, or other files available from that particular site. Juno provides such links simply as a convenience to its users, and assumes no responsibility for the accuracy, content, quality, or privacy practices of such sites.

Tips from the Better Business Bureau

  • Do business online with companies you know and trust. The success of companies like Amazon.com is built on their reputation for integrity and security.
  • Always read the customer guarantee and return policy. A company's sales policy says a lot about its attitudes toward the consumer.
  • Pay particular attention to what they'll do to help you in the case of a stolen credit card or unapproved purchase.
  • Always read the fine print. Any time a site asks for personal information, find out why that information is being collected.
  • When signing up for a service, make sure that the terms of agreement do not mention selling your personal information to third parties. Do not enter your social security number unless you are providing it to a bank or under other special circumstances.
  • Watch your credit card bills closely. The sooner you catch an error, the more likely you will be able to remedy it. Report any problems to the Better Business Bureau.
