I am using Juno 4 and constantly get a message that I am being upgraded

If you are using Juno 4 and receive numerous upgrade messages, you should manually backup your Juno 4 data, uninstall the Juno 4 software, then install the Juno 5 software and restore your backed up data into Juno 5.

How do I?
Get Juno 5.0
Back up my email folders and Address Book?
Restore my email folders and Address Book?

Juno 5.0 is the latest version of Juno. You can easily upgrade your current Juno version by downloading Juno 5.0 from our Web site at http://my.juno.com/s/download. To install it, just double-click the file you downloaded and install Juno in the same folder as your existing Juno version.

Note: You can install Juno 5.0 on top of previous versions of the Juno software without losing any of your saved user information (your email messages and Address Book). However, as a precaution, we recommend that you save copies of your email messages and Address Book before you install Juno 5.0.

Backing up your email folders and Address Book

To back up your email folders and Address Book in Juno 4.0 or earlier:

  1. Make sure you exit Juno.
  2. Find your USER folder (Each Juno account on your computer has a USER folder that stores the information for that account.):

    • On the taskbar, click Start, point to Programs, point to Juno, and click Juno System Information.

    • In the text file that appears, scroll to the section labeled JUNO_INI_FILE and locate [Juno Users]. This section contains the name and location of the USER folders for each Juno account on your computer.

    • In this section, find the line of text that contains your user name. For example, the line could look like this: yourusername=C:\Juno\USER0002. In this example, your USER folder name is USER0002 and is located in the Juno folder on your computer.

    • Write the location of your USER folder (the text after the equal sign) on a piece of paper. So, for the above example, you would write C:\Juno\USER0002.

  3. Locate your USER folder on your computer. If you need to, refer to the location you previously wrote down.
  4. Copy your USER folder to another location on your computer. For example, you can copy it to your desktop, another folder, or on to a disk.
  5. If there is more than one Juno account on your computer, repeat this procedure for each account you want to back up.

Right after you upgrade, check your Address Book and email messages and folders to make sure that you haven't lost any information. In the unlikely event that you have, all you need to do is restore this information.

Restoring your email folders and Address Book

If you find that you need to restore your account information, just follow this procedure. However, please note, if you've received new messages and/or added new Address Book entries and need to restore your account information from your saved USER folder, the information won't merge; the information in the USER folder you previously saved will completely replace any new messages or Address Book entries. So, if you need to, be sure to restore your account information right away. Once you have 5.0 installed, you can use the new Juno Backup Wizard to easily back up, restore, or even move your email messages, Address Book, user preferences and much more!

To restore your account information:

  1. Make sure you exit Juno.
  2. Find your USER folder again:

  3. Locate the USER folder you previously saved either on your computer on or a disk.
  4. Compare your saved USER folder name to your USER folder name you just wrote down.
  5. If both folders have the same name, just copy your saved USER folder back to the Juno installation folder.

If they do not, change the saved USER folder name to the USER folder name you just wrote down. For example, if your saved USER folder name is USER0001 and your USER folder name is now USER0000, change the saved USER folder name to USER0000.

  6. Once you change the saved USER folder name, copy it back to the Juno installation folder.
  7. If there is more than one Juno account on your computer, repeat this procedure for each account you need to restore.
