Will a home security system affect my DSL connection?

A home security system which is wired-in to your phone line can interfere with your DSL signal just like any other unfiltered phone device (such as phone or fax machine), resulting in Internet connection problems. In order to avoid potential connection issues, you will need to use a DSL filter to prevent interference.

If your alarm has a cord plugged in to a phone jack, be sure to use a DSL filter between it and the phone jack. Click here to learn more about installing filters.

If your security system is wired directly into your phone line, or you are unable to access the phone cord, you will need to contact your security company in order to install a filter to ensure proper performance of both your alarm and Internet services.
