What is the difference between DSL and cable broadband?

While both DSL and cable provide fast Internet connections, the difference is in how the service is provided. As the name says, a cable Internet connection is just like cable TV. If you don't already have a cable connection you will need to have a technician come to your home and install the cable. This could be a challenge, especially for residents of apartments who might need special permission from the landlord before getting connected.

On the other hand, DSL service comes via your existing phone line, and normally does not require any new connections, phone jacks, or visits from a technician. Just plug in your DSL modem, phone filters and you are ready to go!
