How can I stop my modem from cycling through one or more numbers before connecting? (Juno 5.0)

To fix this problem, try increasing the time your modem allows to establish a connection to Juno. The time increase will reduce the number of disconnections you may experience when dialing an access number.

To increase the time your modem allows to establish a connection to Juno:

  1. Close Juno.
  2. Locate the folder where you installed Juno. For example, if you installed Juno in C:\Program Files\Juno, use My Computer or Windows Explorer to get there.
  3. Open the folder where you installed Juno. In this folder is a folder called lib.
  4. Open the lib folder. In the lib folder there is a file called juno.ini.
  5. Double-click the juno.ini file to open it.
  6. Scroll to the section labeled [Communications].
  7. In this section, directly underneath [Communications] type, Pop Wait Time=120. For example, this section should appear as follows: [Communications] Pop Wait Time=120.
  8. Save and close the file.

Other steps to try:

  • Check what kind of modem you have. IBM Mwave modems do not work well with our access numbers. If you have this modem, you will need a software patch for Juno to work. Please contact IBM (see your modem manual for contact information) and ask for a copy of this patch.

  • You may have to update your modem's drivers. Your modem manufacturer should be able to instruct you as to how to update your modem drivers.

  • Please check which version of Juno you are using. To determine which version of Juno is installed on your computer:
  1. Open Juno
  2. Go to the Help menu and select About Juno.
  3. The version of Juno currently installed on your computer will be displayed at the top of the About Juno window that appears.

If you would like to upgrade your Juno software, you can download the latest version for free by going to http://my.juno.com/s/download

To get a copy of the Juno CD-ROM in the mail, call us toll-free at 1-800-654-5866. Please note, there is a one-time $10.00 processing fee for the CD-ROM that includes shipping and handling.
